Chaklader Mustafa Al Mashud, better known as Mashud Sumon, has been an integral part of the Bangladeshi theatre landscape since 2000. As a senior member of Loko Natyadal, one of the most prominent theatre troupes in Bangladesh, Mashud has delivered riveting performances in over 250 shows of Kanjush (based on Moliere’s The Miser), making it the most staged play in Bangladesh. His portrayal of complex characters in plays such as Majhrater Manushera, Hamlet, Lilaboti Akhyan, Amra Teen Jon, Toposhshi O Torongini has earned him recognition both at home and abroad. His dedication to the craft is further evident in his involvement with stage management and production coordination, where he has overseen major productions and managed logistics for international performances, such as Toposshi O Torongini at the AACT WORLD FEST 2022 in Florida, USA, among many more.
Mashud Sumon’s transition from the stage to the screen has been seamless, with his work in television and film garnering widespread acclaim. He has played lead roles in various television dramas, short films, TVC and OVC most notably in Naree, directed by Rakibul Hasan, where his performance was praised for its depth and authenticity. His involvement in the film Ek Cup Cha, directed by Noyeem Imtiaz Neamul, showcases his versatility as an actor capable of navigating both leading and supporting roles. Mashud Sumon has been a driving force behind numerous cultural initiatives at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, where he currently serves as a Cultural Officer. His tenure as an Assistant Director (Film) in the Department of Drama and Film (from October 2013 to January 2023) was marked by his leadership in coordinating major national film festivals, including the Bangladesh Film Festival and Bangladesh Short and Documentary Film Festival etc. In his current role, he oversees the production of biographical films, having coordinated the creation of 65 documentaries that celebrate the lives and contributions of Bangladeshi luminaries.
