Coordinator - Loko Natyadal

Various Roles, Loko Natyadal - Since 2000

Mashud Sumon has served in various capacities at Loko Natyadal, including as an Executive Member, Organizing Secretary, Joint Secretary, and Coordinator, during different times since 2000. Loko Natyadal, established on July 6, 1981, is one of the leading theatre groups in Bangladesh and an associate member of the People’s Theatre Association. In his roles, Mashud has been deeply involved in the production of notable plays such as ‘Kanjush’ (based on Moliere’s ‘The Miser’), ‘Toposshi O Torongini,’ and ‘Amra Tinjon.’ and many more. He has also directed numerous theatre performances, participated in and conducted multiple theatre workshops, served as a stage manager for various productions, and coordinated numerous festivals for Loko Natyadal. His dedication has been instrumental in maintaining the group’s reputation as a pioneer in the Bangladeshi theatre scene.

Executive Member - People's Theatre Association

People's Theatre Association, Bangladesh - Since 2000

Through his role as an Executive Member of the People’s Theatre Association (PTA), Mashud Sumon has demonstrated a deep commitment to using theatre as a tool for education and social change. Since 2000, he has organized and trained workshops on children’s theatre across Bangladesh, making theatre accessible to underprivileged communities and promoting social engagement. His work includes teaching drama in schools and colleges, participating in international trainer-led workshops, and coordinating the National Children & Youth Theatre Festival multiple times. These efforts have significantly contributed to the mental and physical development of children through drama.

Cultural Officer and Assistant Director (Film) - Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy

As a Cultural Officer at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Assistant Director (film) Mashud Sumon plays a pivotal role in preserving and promoting Bangladesh’s rich cultural heritage. He is actively involved in documentary filmmaking and serves as an executive producer for the Academy’s productions. His work includes organizing and participating in cultural events, curating exhibitions, and leading programs that showcase the country’s artistic traditions. Mashud collaborates with organizations like the Bangladesh Group Theater Federation and ITI Bangladesh Center to organize theatre festivals, workshops, and seminars. His contributions extend to the film industry, where he works closely with the Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Short Film Forum, and Bangladesh Documentary Council, organizing film festivals, workshops, and other film-related activities, thereby enhancing his influence as both a filmmaker and cultural organizer.

His leadership has significantly elevated the recognition of street theatre as a vibrant medium for social change and cultural expression in Bangladesh.

As the director of Panchali Films, Mashud Sumon leads the production of films and documentaries that focus on social issues and cultural narratives. His vision for Panchali Films is to create content that not only entertains but also educates and inspires. Under his leadership, Panchali Films has produced several critically acclaimed short films, documentaries, and biographical pieces, contributing richly to the cinematic landscape of Bangladesh.

Creative Director - Roktoreen

Roktoreen - Since 2014

As the Creative Director of Roktoreen, Mashud Sumon directs the production of socially impactful films and documentaries. Among his acclaimed works is “Dhusharjatra (Dusky Voyage),” which received recognition at several international festivals. His notable works include “Short Fiction on COVID-19 Awareness” and “Bondhu Somachar,” both of which played significant roles in raising pandemic awareness. He also directed a biographical documentary on the eminent theatre personality Monchosarathi Ataur Rahman. Currently, he is working on the short film “Kusum” and the feature film “Se rathe purnima cilo,” showcasing his ongoing commitment to creating meaningful content produced by Roktoreen.
